Lectures and Professors:

The TEFL Certificate program includes:
Methodology, Language Testing and Assessment, Second Language Acquisition Theories and Practice,and Computer-Assisted Language Learning. The program content will be modified to address the needs of each students group.In addition, a year-long follow-up on-line component will be made available to the students upon completion of the program.

      • TEFL Methodology:

Instructor: Prof. Kevin Keating

Prof. Kevin Keating, who teaches at CESL, University of Arizona. He has taught ESL for more than thirty years in twelve different countries around the world.Besides, he is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences and regularly gives teacher-training workshops focusing on dynamic classroom strategies and practical communicative teaching techniques.In 2005, he was the recipient of a University of Arizona College of Humanities Distinguished Teaching Award.



Testing and Assessment in Language

Instructor: Prof. Cheri Boyer

Prof. Cheri Boyer, who completed her M.A. in TESL in 1987 at the University of Arizona and began teaching at CESL there in January 1989. She has been teaching both academic and business writing at CESL, and TOEFL preparation classes for several years, and has conducted practical classroom research to determine the most effective methods of helping students acquire English as a foreign language.

 

Classroom-oriented Research in Language Learning and Teaching

Instructor:Dr. Jun Liu

Dr. Jun Liu received his Ph.D. from the Foreign and Second Language Education Program in the College of Education at the OhioStateUniversity in 1996.Now he is Associate Professor of English and Also Graduate Advisor in Second Language Acquisition and Teaching (SLAT) Interdisciplinary doctoral program at the University of Arizona.He concurrently works in China in the capacity of Executive Director of EnglishLanguageCenter at ShantouUniversity.His research interests include curriculum development and syllabus design, teacher education, classroom-based second language learning and teaching, and second language reading and writing. With considerable publications and contribution to English learning and teaching, as well as educational research, Dr. Liu has recently been elected to the TESOL(Teachers of English to the Speakers of Other Languages) presidency (2005 – 2008).

 

Second Language Acquisition Theories and Practice

Instructor: Dr. Suzanne Panferov

Dr. Panferov graduated from The Second and Foreign Language Education Doctoral Program in the College of Education at the OhioStateUniversity.She taught ESL composition courses at the OhioStateUniversity and is now director at Center of English as a Second Language (CESL) at the University of Arizona.Her research interests include second language acquisition, computer-assisted language teaching, multiculturalism, and second language writing.


 

Computer-assisted Language Learning

Instructor:Dr. Greg Kessler

Dr. Greg Kessler has an Instructional Technology Ph.D. and TESOL MA.He teaches ESL and linguistics at OhioUniversity.He has published, presented and consulted widely in the area of CALL.He focuses on training teachers to effectively create and implement CALL and offers advice through his ESL Magazine column, “Technology”.He is an active participant and leader in TESOLElectronicVillage for a number of years, and is a rising star in CALL in the field of TESOL.
